Overview

At the beginning of COVID I began prototyping a solution for teams to meet virtually with one another in 3D environments, using Unity (WebGL) hosted on a web frontend. The company I worked for liked the idea, and was able to put a small team of engineers around me to further explore the concept and eventually ship a beta feature-set.

Approach

I ended up designing and prototyping several remote collaboration feature sets, including:

  • Avatar creation
  • In-world webcams and screensharing
  • Chat and Q+A systems
  • Environment selection and user management

I was responsible for the design process from initial wireframes to final UI/UX. I also wrote most of the spatial collaboration code and implemented the gameplay features directly in Unity (like visualizing group discussions, avatar selection, in-world screensharing).
